Band Aids Help Dads Cultivate Meaningful Bonds With Their Kids
Posted by : David Hirsch on April 8, 2013 - 1:08pm tags : Dad to Dad

The goal of every parent is to develop open lines of communication with their sons and daughters.  Getting your teenagers to come to you when there is a problem or they need advice is the exception not the rule.

There is a simple solution and it starts when your kids are as young as four and five years old.  Carry two band aids in your wallet and let your kids know when they skin a knee or cut themselves, they can come to you for a band aid.  As the months and years go by, there is a 100% probability there will be a need for band aids.  If your experience is like mine, when your kids’ friends cut or bruise themselves, they’ll be coming to you too.

Fast forward to when they are teenagers, they will start talk with you about other issues when they are hurt or uncertain about things.  One last thought, the band aid is not a silver bullet, but it’s an easy way to help your kids develop a positive relationship with you as they grow up.

From DAD To DAD, good luck Band Aid Dad!!!
